Warning against lengthening the moustache

What is the authenticity of the following Narrattion?

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is reported to have said:

‘Whomsoever lengthens his moustache will be deprived of my intercession, will not drink from my pond (Hawd Al Kawthar), will be punished in the grave and the angel of death will come to him in an angry state’

Answer

The Hadith in question is part of a long narration and has been declared a fabrication by numerous Muhaddithun like Ibnul Jawzi, Hafiz Dhahabi, ‘Allamah Suyuti and Hafiz Ibn ‘Arraq (rahimahumullah). The Hadith therefore cannot be quoted.

(Refer: Kitabul Mawdu’at, vol. 3 pg. 52, Talkhisul Mawdu’at, Hadith: 897, Al La-Alil Masnu’ah, vol. 2 pg. 226 and Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2 pg. 268)

N.B. However, there are other authentic (Sahih) Hadiths that prohibit lengthening the moustache.

Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said:

‘Lengthen the beards and shorten/remove the moustaches’

(Sahih Bukhari & Sahih Muslim)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
