Difference between ‘Al Marfu’ and ‘Al Mawquf’

Could you tell me the difference between a ‘mawquf’ (موقوف) and ‘marfu’ (مرفوع) Hadith?

Answer

Al Marfu’ refers to that narration in which the statements, actions, approvals or qualities (shamail) are attributed to Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

Al Mawquf refers to a narration in which the statements or actions are attributed to a Sahabi (radiyallahu’anhu).

(Refer: Sharhun Nukhbah and Ibnus Salah, pg. 45-46)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
