Cleansing the utensils of the Mushrikun before using them

What is the authenticity of the following Hadith

Daraqutni reported from Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah Al Khushani (radiyallahu ‘anhu) who said:

“I said: O Rasulullah! We interact with the Mushrikun [polytheists] and we do not have vessels other than their vessels.” He replied: ‘Avoid it as much as you can, but if you do not find anything else, then rinse it with water, because water will restore its purity, then cook in it.”

Answer

Imam Daraqutni (rahimahullah has recorded this narration as you have stated, via a slightly weak chain.

(Sunan Daraqutni, Hadith: 4801. Refer: Footnotes on Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah by Shaykh Muhammad ‘Awwamah, under Hadith: 19937 )

However Imam Bukhari, Imam Muslim and others (rahimahumullah) have recorded a lengthier version of this narration in their respective books, on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Tha’labah Al Khushani (radiyallahu ‘anhu). The text of this narration is therefore authentic.

(Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 5478, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 1930.)

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best
