The blessing of a mother’s du’a

I have read an incident in Al Bidayah Wan Nihayah cited on the authority of Sayyiduna Anas ibn Malik (radiyallahu ‘anhu) that during the time of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) a mother had lost her child. She made fervent du’a to Allah and through the blessing of her du’a, Allah Ta’ala brought the child back to life.

Is this incident authentic?

Answer

Imam Abu Bakr ibn Abid Dunya and Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahumallah) have recorded this incident.

(Man ‘Asha Ba’dal Mawt, Hadith: 1 and Dalailun Nubuwwah, vol. 6 pg. 50/51)

This Hadith is recorded with two weak chains in the above references, one of which is less weaker than the other.

(Dalailun Nubuwwah, vol. 6 pg. 51/52. Also see Al Bidayah Wan Nihayah, vol. 6 pg. 229/230 and Hayatus Sahabah, vol. 4 pg. 423)

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
