What is the status of the following Hadith?
Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:
“A generous person will smell the fragrance of Jannah from a distance of 1000 years away and the generous person receives the reward of a Nabi each day. The Mercy of Allah never terminates upon such a person.”
Answer
‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has cited this narration in his book on fabricated Hadiths.
(Dhaylul La-Alil Masnu’ah, vol. 2 pg. 765, Hadith: 961, Tanzihush Shari’ah, vol. 2 pg. 144)
This narration is therefore not suitable to quote, despite the fact that generosity is indeed a laudable quality.
