A du’a to recite when hearing a sneeze

Is this narration authentic?

عن علي رضي الله عنه قال من قال عند عطسة سمعها الحمد لله رب العالمين على كل حال ما كان، لم يجد وجع الضرس ولا أذن أبدا

Answer

This narration is recorded in Al Adabul Mufrad of Imam Bukhari and Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah.

(Al Adabul Mufrad: 926, Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah: 30430)

Hafiz Ibn Hajar Al ‘Asqalani (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators reliable (thiqat). He further states that Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) could not have said this by applying his own logic. It would therefore be understood that he heard this from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).

(Fathul Bari, Hadith: 6220)

Translation

Sayyiduna ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhu) said: Whoever says the following when hearing a sneeze, will never experience toothache or an earache:

الحمد لله رب العالمين على كل حال ما كان

Alhamdulillahi Rabbil ‘Alamin ‘ala kulli halim ma kana

Translation: All praise belongs to Allah, the Rabb of the universe in every situation

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
