Abu Hurayrah’s (radiyallahu ‘anhu) respect for Hasan ibn ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhuma)

Can you confirm if this Hadith is authentic?

Sa’id bin Abi Sa’id Al Maqburi (rahimahullah) narrates the following incident:

On one occasion, we were with Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) when Sayyiduna Hasan ibn ‘Ali (radiyallahu ‘anhuma) came to us and greeted us with salam. When the group heard him make salam, they replied, after which Sayyiduna Hasan (radiyallahu ‘anhu) departed. However, Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) was unaware that Hasan (radiyallahu ‘anhu) had come and made salaam.

When someone brought it to his attention that Hasan (radiyallahu ‘anhu) had come to the gathering, made salaam and thereafter left, Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) left the gathering and went to look for Hasan (radiyallahu ‘anhu). When he found him, he replied to his salaam saying, ‘Wa ‘alaykas salam ya Sayyidi (and may salam be upon you, O my leader).’

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) then said, ‘I heard Rasulullah (sallallalhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) say, ‘He is a leader.’”

Answer

Imams Abu Ya’la and Tabarani (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration. Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) has declared it authentic and ‘Allamah Dhahabi (rahimahullah) concurs.

‘Allamah Haythami (rahimahullah) has declared the narrators of Tabarani reliable (thiqat).
