Muhammad Ibnul Munkadir (rahimahullah) preferred spending the night in the service of his mother

Can you mention the reference and Arabic for this please?

I spent the night massaging my Mother’s foot while ‘Umar [my brother] spent his night in prayer. [Honestly speaking] I would not want to exchange my night for his. Ibnul Munkadir (rahimahullah)

Answer

Imams Ahmad and Abu Nu’aym (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration.

(Kitabuz Zuhd of Imam Ahmad, 440, Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 3 pg. 150. Also see Musnad Ibnul Ja’d, 1684)

Muhammad ibnul Munkadir (rahimahullah) was a  reliable Tabi’i.

Arabic text:

قال محمد بن المنكدر: بت أغمز رجل أمي وبات عمر يصلي وما يسرني أن ليلتي بليلته

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
