The punishment for using black dye

من خضب بالسواد سود الله وجهه يوم القيامة

Is this Hadith suitable to quote? What is meant by ‘سنده لين’? (Mirqat)

Answer

The Hadith is suitable to quote.

Imam Tabarani (rahimahullah) and Imam Ibn Abi ‘Asim (rahimahumallah) have recorded this Hadith on the authority of Sayyiduna Abud Darda (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Hafiz Ibn Hajar (rahimahullah) has declared the chain slightly weak. Mulla ‘Ali Al Qari (rahimahullah) has also declared the chain slightly weak, as alluded to in your question.

‘سنده لين’ means it’s chain is slightly weak.

Translation

Whoever dies his hair black, Allah Ta’ala will blacken his face on the Day of Qiyamah.

For more on the ruling of dying the hair black, kindly refer to a reputable Mufti/Darul Ifta.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
