Explanation on the Hadith regarding the number of people to enter Jahannam

Could you please explain this Hadith?

As far as I understood, 999 out of 1000 people will end up in Jahannam, If you consider over 1 billion Muslims in the world today, would most of them enter Jahannam?

Answer:

The Hadith further explains that from every 1000 destined for Jahannam only one will be from this Ummah. The rest will be from Gog and Magog.
