Marriage in Shawwal

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I have read the Hadith answer regarding getting married in Shawwal but there is another Hadith where Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) mentions that three things should not be delayed. One of them being marriage.

My question is regarding a person who gets proposed in Rabi ‘ul Awwal. One Hadith is telling us not to delay. On the other hand, we have the virtue of getting married in Shawwal. How do we reconcile?

Answer

If a match is found well in advance of the month of Shawwal, there is no harm in marrying immediately.

Marriage should not be delayed especially when the primary purpose is to avoid falling into zina or related sins. In this case, the importance of protecting one’s self from sin outweighs the virtue of waiting till a particular date (like Shawwal in this case).

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
