The du’a of Bilal ibn Sa’d (rahimahullah)

Is this a masnun du’a?

اللهم إني أعوذ بك من زيغ القلوب، ومن تبعات الذنوب، ومن مرديات الأعمال ومضلات الفتن

Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min zayghil qulubi wa min tabi’atidh dhunub wa min murdiyatil a’amal wa mudillatil fitan

Answer

I have not come across this as a du’a of Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). Imam Abu Nu’aym, Imam Bayhaqi and Hafiz Ibn ‘Asakir (rahimahumullah) have recorded this as the du’a of the reliable Tabi’i, Bilal ibn Sa’d (rahimahullah).

(Hilyatul Awliya, vol. 5 pg. 229, Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 836 and Tarikh Dimashq, vol. 10 pg. 499)

One may recite this for its profound meaning even though it has not been reported from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam). When reciting it, one should not consider it as masnun.

Translation

O Allah I seek your refuge from my heart becoming misguided, from perpetrating sins, from carrying out evil deeds and from misleading trials

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best.
