Do not mise in du’a

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

Where will I find the Hadith of the Sahabi  (radiyallahu ‘anhu) who just accepted Islam (a bedouin) and made du’a that Allah only sends mercy on him and Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wasallam) and no one else.?

Answer

Imam Bukhari (rahimahullah) has recorded this in his Sahih, Hadith: 6010. The full Hadith is as follows:

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (radiyallahu’anhu) reports that a Bedouin once made the following du’a in salah:

‘O Allah, have mercy on myself and Muhammad (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam), and do not have mercy on anyone else.’

After the salah, Rasulullah (sallallahu’alayhi wasallam) said to him:

‘You have restricted something very vast.’ i.e, the mercy of Allah.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
