Engaging in futile debates and disputes could result in misguidance

Could you verify this narration

Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“No people go astray after being guided, but those who indulge in disputes [i.e. Constantly debating and presenting futile and baseless arguments to their Nabis].” Then Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) recited the Verse: ‘Nay! But they are a quarrelsome people’

Answer

Imam Tirmidhi and Imam Ibn Majah (rahimahumallah) have recorded this narration on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu). Imam Tirmidhi (rahimahullah) has declared the Hadith authentic (hasanun sahih).

(Sunan Tirmidhi, Hadith: 3253, Sunan Ibn Majah, Hadith: 48)
