Hadith on the duties of the ‘Ulama

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by HadithAnswers.com

I came across a very interesting and beautiful Hadith:

The Messenger (salallahu alayhi wa sallam) said: “This sacred knowledge will be borne by the reliable authorities of each successive generation, who will [preserve it and] remove from it the alterations of the excessive, the interpolations of the corrupt, and the false interpretations of the ignorant.”

Is this Hadith authentic?

Answer

This Hadith is reported by several Sahabah (radiyallahu ‘anhum).

Imams Ahmad, Abu Musa Al-Madini, ‘Alaiy and others (rahimahumullah) have declared it reliable.

Refer: Atharul Hadith, pg.7 and Shaykh ‘Awamah’s commentary on Tadribur Rawi, vol.4 pg.24-25  and Al-Jami’u li Akhlaqir Rawi, Hadith: 137.

And Allah Ta’ala Knows best,
