Does the famous du’a,
Allahumma aanis wahshati fi qabri
which is recited at the completion of Holy Quran appear in the Hadith?
Answer
There are 2 separate du’as that are reported for recital at the time of Quran completion.
1. Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said : “When one of you completes the Holy Quran, then he should say:
Allahumma aanis wahshati fi qabri.
The above narration is a fabrication and is not suitable to quote.

2. Imams Abu Mansur Al Arjani and Abu Bakr ibn Ad Dahhak (rahimahumallah) have recorded a narration which states that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would recite the following du’a when completing the Holy Quran:
Allahummar hamni bil Quranil ‘Azim waj’alhu li imamaw wa nuraw wa hudaw wa rahmah. Allahumma dhakkirni minhu ma nussitu wa ‘allimni minhu ma jahiltu war zuqni tilawatahu aanaa al layli wa aanaa an nahari waj ‘alhu hujjatal li ya Rabbal ‘Aalamin.

This particular du’a is suitable to practice upon, despite its slight weakness.
