The Sahabah’s gatherings of Iman

In volume 3 of Hayatus Sahabah there is a section pertaining to gatherings of Iman and the eagerness of Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Rawahah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) to participate in gatherings of Iman.

The implication of one ‘Alim is that these gatherings took place inside the masjid. However the English translation does not mention these gatherings taking place in the Masjid. Does the Arabic text refer to these gatherings taking place in the masjid or are there any other narrations to back up the claim that these gatherings took place in the masjid?

Answer

The narration in question is general and does not specify whether these gatherings took place in the masjid or not.

(Musnnaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, hadith: 31065, Musnad Ahmad, vol. 3 pg. 265 and Shu’abul Iman, hadith: 49)

These gatherings could have taken place in the masjid or out of the masjid. However having such gatherings in the masjid is the ideal and undoubtedly what is expected from the Sahabah (radiyallahu’anhum)
