Charity given in secret extinguishes the wrath of Allah Ta’ala

Can you mention the authenticity of the following Hadith?

Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“Charity given in secret extinguishes the wrath of Allah Ta’ala”

Answer

This Hadith has been reported through many chains with varied degrees of reliability. ‘Allamah Sakhawi (rahimahullah) has cited the various versions in Al Maqasidul Hasanah.

‘Allamahs Mundhiri, Haythami and Sakhawi (rahimahumullah) have declared the following version sound (hasan):

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports that Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said:

“…Giving charity secretly extinguishes the Anger of Allah…”
