Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak (rahimahullah)’s intention when drinking Zam Zam

What is the source for the following Hadith and is it suitable to quote?

‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak (rahimahullah) went to the well of Zam Zam, quoted his chain of narrators to Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) who said, “The water of Zam Zam is [suitable] for whatever purpose it is drunk for”. ‘Abdullah ibn Al Mubarak then said, “I am drinking it [to be quenched from the] thirst of the Day of Qiyamah”

Answer

Imam Bayhaqi (rahimahullah) and others have recorded this incident. The incident is suitable to quote.

(Shu’abul Iman, Hadith: 3833. Refer: Zadul Ma’ad, vol. 4 pg. 360/361 and Fathul Bari, Hadith: 1636)

The Hadith ‘Zam Zam is [suitable] for whatever purpose it is drunk for’ has been recorded in several Hadith collections and has been declared reliable by several Muhaddithun. See here for details.
