Is a fiance considered a spouse?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

I have alot of questions in my head please I’m lost im in need of answers
I’m with a guy and our parents have met, does that make him my fiance? We didn’t have an engagement yet
Is being attracted to other guys considered cheating on him? And is it Haram?

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salām wa rahmatullāhi wa barakātuhu,

Whilst the feeling of being attracted to a person of the opposite gender is not a sin, unless and provided that it was not as a result of lustful gazes and other impermissible avenues; it should be noted that in Islām, one is either considered to be married to someone, in which case all forms of communication become permissible, or not, in which case one may not freely communicate without a valid need to do so.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
