Salam hope you are in the best of healths.
I wanted to enquire about discharge breaking wudhu. I wear a pantyliner on a daily basis so that my discharge doesn’t spoil my underwear however was wondering if i needed to change it as and when i see discharge. The problem is i can keep my wudhu for a minimum of 2 to 3 salaahs so wouldn’t see the discharge until i go to the toilet. Someone had told me that i dont need to change my pantyliner at all during the day but that doesn’t seem right to me

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

The ruling will depend on whether the discharge is pure or not.

There are three types of discharges which a woman could experiance:

  1. That fluid which emanates from the external region of the vagina,
  2. The fluid that comes from the inner vagina,
  3. The fluid which comes from beyond the inner vagina (including the cervix and uterus).

As for the discharge which is produced from the outer part of the vagina, its ruling will be like perspiration. That means it is pure, and it also does not break ones Wudhu.

As for the second type, the preferred view is that the discharge produced in the vagina is also pure and does not nullify ones Wudhu.

So if the discharge that you experience if one of the above, you do not have to change your panty-liners, and your Wudhu is not be invalidated. Remember, this ruling is applicable only on condition that the discharge is clear or white (normal color). If the discharge is mixed with blood, urine or arousal discharge (Madhi), the Wudhu will be nullified.

If you experience the third type of discharge, you will have to change. You will also have to then see if you are a Ma’dhura, in which case you will have to make a new Wudhu when the time of any prayer lapses.
