Talking to magicians

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwaa.com

There is a hadith about fortune tellers which is ‘Whoever approaches a fortune teller and asks him anything, his salaah will not be accepted for forty nights.’ I have a friend who is a magician if I talk to him will my prayers not be accepted for 40 days or does this apply only if you ask the magician something to do with your future etc.

Answer

Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

No, if you do not ask him anything about the future, nor do you believe anything he says to others, then the ruling will not apply to you. Your Salah will, insha Allah, still be accepted.

And Allaah Ta’aala knows best

Wassalaam,
