Mufti,
My father in law had a good job at a reputable company, for which he worked for for over 3 decades.
However, about 9 years back that company went bankrupt, and they paid my father in law out. My father in law used that money and all his savings to start a business. However, that business became a disaster, and ny father in laws was not making any profit. Rather, he was in a deficit each month. Since there were contracts in place, he soon had to sell his assets to cover his expenses. He soon lost everything.
Currently he gets a mere R10 000 every month, which just covers all his expenses. He has no savings, investments etc. In fact, he has nothing to his name at all.
Can I give him my Zakah?
Answer
Wa’alaykum as Salam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,
Yes, it is permissible to give Zakah to ones father in law.
And Allaah Ta’aala knows best
Wassalaam,
Ismail Moosa (Mufti)
