Oath on mother’s name

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Fatwa.org.au
Is it permissible for a person to take an oath in his mother’s name? May Allah Ta’ala reward you.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

It is haraam (forbidden) to take an oath in the name of other than Allah, including one’s mother. If a person does take such an oath, the oath will not be valid. To compensate for the sin, such a person must do istighfaar and tauba (repentance).
