Giving a Muslim sister a lift.

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Q. Is it permissible for a Muslim brother to give a Muslim sister a lift? It is known to the brother that the sister has to walk a long distance and he knows her as well.

A. If the Muslim sister is not a blood relative (Mahram) to the brother, then it is not permissible for him to give her a lift, (for in this case both of them will be alone in the vehicle and the shariah does not allow this).

If the Muslim brother has his wife, daughter or a female relative in the vehicle, then it is allowed for him to give the Muslim sister a lift (since there will be other females in the vehicle who are related to him).

The teachings of Islam has a great amount of wisdom, and by establishing certain laws, it seeks to protect the image and character of its followers. It is frequently seen that when a woman is in the vehicle of a man alone, accusation begins to rise from every direction. Both the man and the woman are spoken about in an ill manner and the image of each are then tarnished.

As such, even though one may see an aspect of kindness in giving a lift to a Muslim sister, he must first compare it to the possible harmful outcome before doing so.

And Allah knows best.
