Is it permissible for women to shave their eyebrows?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Salaam,
Is it permissible in Islam for women to shave their eyebrows.??  I have seen a lot of women do it so I was just concerned if it is permissible. I have also heard that on the Day of Judgement that snakes and scorpions will walk off your eyebrows if you shave them….is this saying true???

And does this apply to the rest of the bodily hairs…

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

الجواب و بالله التوفيق

It is not permissible for women to shave their eyebrows in Islam. This is Haram.

With respect to what you have heard that snakes and scorpions will walk on the eyebrows of those who shave them, I have not seen any narration or statement like this. However, in the authentic traditions, the Prophet (S.A.S) is reported to have said, ‘Allah has cursed the woman who plucks eyebrows and the one who has it done.’ (Bukhari, Muslim).

The above does not apply to the rest of the bodily hair.

And Allah Knows Best.
