Taking An I.V While Fasting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

Question:What is the Shariah’s ruling regarding an I.V. while fasting, does it break the fast?

Answer:No, an I.V. does not break the fast. The reason is that an I.V. is a type of injection which is placed into the vein. That which breaks the fast is the entering of anything through a natural and direct passage to the brains or stomach.  Something placed in the veins or bloodstream is not a direct passage therefore injections in general and also an I.V. would not break the fast.
