Can one burn Oudh/Bakhoor (Incense) while fasting? Does it break the Fast?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulUloomTT.net

As salaamu ‘alaikum.

Mufti Saab,

Q:Is it allowed to burn bakhoor/oudh while fasting, or will it invalidate the fast?

Wa Alaikum Assalaam,

A: It is allowed to burn bakhoor/oudh while fasting. This does not invalidate the fast. However, when it is being burnt and the smoke emits from it, one must not intentionally inhale the smoke. This act will break the fast. If it is kept away and the smoke spreads, and the person gets the scent and smoke of it without doing any intentional act of inhaling the smoke, then this will not break the fast.
