Du’a of a father against his son

Question

Assalamualykum,

Please answer the following question of mine:

1.If a father says to his son that your duas won’t be accepted by Allah(swt) because of an argument between them and then after that father says I didn’t mean what I uttered, I said it to make you quite,

Will the duas of the son be accepted after he and father repents?

Note: son is a teenager and dependent on the father.

2. How can you reverse a bud dua?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Shariah has emphasized children to respect and honour one’s parents.

Kindness to ones parents through respecting them, fulfilling their rights, serving them and making them happy is among the dearest and most beloved deeds to Allah.

Allah Taalah says:

Translation: “And we have enjoined upon Mankind showing compassion to parents”

(Surah Al- Ankaboot, Verse 8)

On the hand, parents should not hasten in cursing and making dua against their children.

A father’s dua against his child is readily accepted. [1]

Consider the following hadeeth:

Translation: “Three supplications are accepted, there is no doubt in them (about them being accepted): The supplication of the oppressed, the supplication of the traveller, and the supplication of his father against his son.”

(Jaami Al-Tirmidhy)

The son should ask for forgiveness from his father, once the father forgives his son, Insha Allah, the son’s duas will be accepted. The father should also make abundant dua for his son. [2]
