The Pakistani custom of holding the Quran over the bride’s head at the time of her rukhsati

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

A.a i pray this reaches Mufti Sahib in good health. My question is regarding the Pakistani custom of holding the Quran over the bride’s head at the time of her rukhsati and making her read from it once she enters the husbands house. I would like to know if there is any shar’i basis for this or if it’s just a made up custom.

Answer:

There are no basis of the aforementioned practice in the Shariah. It is a custom which should be discarded.
