What is the status of circumcision in Islam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF CIRCUMCISION IN ISLAM. IS IT NECESSARY FOR A MUSLIM TO GOES FOR IT

 Answer:

According to Imam Abu Hanifa raḥimahullāh (may Allāh have mercy upon him) circumcision is considered to be Sunnat Muakkadah, whereas Imam Shafi and Imam Ahmad consider it to be obligatory for both men and women. (Durre Mandhuud p.170 v.1)

The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “The practices related to Fitrah (natural human ways) are five: Circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, trimming the moustache, pairing the nails and removing the hair of the armpits.” (Sahih Bukhari)

The Prophet of Allah ṣallallāhu 'alayhi wa sallam (peace and blessings of Allāh be upon him) said: “Circumcision is Sunnah for men and an honour for women” (Musnad Ahmad)
