Is There Any Dua Before Eating Egg?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

Is there any dua before eating egg because my mother in law was saying it isn’t halal till we read that dua?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

An egg is halal for us to consume. I could not find anything to suggest there is a dua before eating eggs. It is likely this is just a cultural practice.

The best guidance to follow is the sunnah of our beloved Prophet ﷺ who advised us to eat by saying bismillah first.

He ﷺ said:

سَمِّ اللَّهَ، وَكُلْ بِيَمِينِكَ وَكُلْ مِمَّا يَلِيكَ

“Mention Allah’s Name (i.e., say Bismillah before starting eating), eat with your right hand, and eat from what is near you.”[1]
