Who is Abu Righal?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Who is Abu Righal?

In the name of Allah, the most Beneficent, the most Merciful.

Answer

When the Arabs heard of Abrahas expedition to tear down the walls of Kabah (naauzubillah), they (Arabs) considered it their moral obligation to defend the Kabah. The Arabs raised a large number of people to go to war against Abrahah. This army was defeated by Abrahah.

Abrahah then took his army towards Taif. Abu Righal, a tribesman of Banu Thaqif, revealed to the army the way to Makkah. As a result, of this dishonourable act, Banu Thaqif were completely disgraced in the eyes of the Arabs and lost their respect. Abu Righal met an equally terrible fate, with the Arabs pelting stones at his gravefor a number of years. (Maariful Quran p.880 v.8)
