Question:

If a person intends to travel by car to a destination 200km away but due to his departure time, he will stop at a place 40km from his home and spend the night there. Will he perform Qasr Salaah at his stopover?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

When a person sets out with the intention to travel 48 miles (77.3km) or more [1], then he will become a traveller as soon as he leaves the boundaries of his home town or city[2]. Therefore, yes he will perform Qasr at his stopover.

Only Allah knows best.
