Question

Is it permitted by Shariah to go on a honeymoon after one gets married? Some say it is not prohibited so we can go for it. I am in constant conflict with my wife on this issue.

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

With regards to Honeymoon, we must understand this is not a tradition or the culture of Islam. This is a tradition and a concept of the west. As Muslims, we should endeavor to follow the Quran and Sunnah the honeymoon has no basis in Islam. If one was to go on a Honeymoon with the intention that it is part of Islam then it would be classed as Bid’ah (innovation).

If Husband and Wife were to go on holiday without intending it to be a honeymoon then there is nothing wrong with this.
