Question

I do not watch tv alhamdulillah and I know that any kind of photos/ videos of living beings even digital photography of living beings is impermissible except in unavoidable circumstances. I want to know that whether keeping tv at home is permissible to listen only to audio bayaans of Hakeem Muhammad Akhtar (Rahimahullah)?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer

Owning a TV is permitted as long as it is not misused. The term misused has a difference of opinion in regards to its boundaries. Whilst some senior Ulemaa allow digital photography as long as there are no haram elements like music or ghair mahrams on screen etc, others do not allow it at all in any way.

There is unanimity in the permissibility of listening to audio lectures. Using a TV to do as such would be permitted as it is not being misused.
