Question:

If you are praying alone, do you have to do takbeerut tashreeq?

Is it Wajib, Sunnah, or mustahab for a woman to recite the takbeerut tashreeq if she prayed alone?

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

Imam Al-Mawsili explains that the Takbeer ut-Tashreeq is Wajib [required] after the five mandatory prayers in congregations of men who are residing in cities.[1]

This means it is not required for women who are praying alone. However, Imam Mawsili then clarified: “It is required for women who are led by a man in prayer, and the same applies to a traveler since they follow [group].”

The two students of Imam Abu Hanifah, Imams Muhammad, and Abu Yusuf, however, said it is required for everyone who performs one of the prayers. Therefore, to be on the safe side and avoid the difference of opinion, it may be best to do it, even if you pray alone.
