Question:
Salam, Can you please specify if seafood (other than fish) is halal? Can I please have a list of the seafood that we are not allowed to consume?

Answer:
The Hanafi scholars explain that animals are of two types those that live on the land and those that live in the sea.
As for those that live in the sea they are impermissible to eat other the fishes but with the exception of those that rise above.
Therefore, without providing a long list, that which is not considered to be fish or rises above onto the land is unlawful to consume (Bada’i Al-Sana’i Fi Tartīb Al-Shara’i of Imām Al-Kāsani Vol.5 p35).
