In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Answer:

It is permissible to keep birds as a pet, as long one is not harming them and takes care of the birds.[1]

The brother of Anas ibn Malik (ra) had a little bird and the Prophet (PBUH) used to ask about his little bird. Anas ibn Malik said: The Prophet (PBUH) was the best of all the people in character. I had a brother called Abu ‘Umayr, who, I think, had been newly weaned. Whenever he (that child) was brought to the Prophet (PBUH) the Prophet (PBUH) used to say, “O Abu ‘Umayr! What did Nughayr do?”[2]

Wakī tells that Nughayr was the bird of the brother of Anas ibn Malik that he kept as a pet.[3]
