Question

If someone gives the masjid a cheque, e.g. $50 for zakat/fitra, and the masjid deposits that in its normal account and instead gives $50 from other available cash funds towards a zakat/fitra worthy cause then this is okay. Is this correct?

Answer:

The giving of zakat/fitra in such manner will release a person from his duty of paying his zakat/fitra

It is quite possible that the masjid or organization can transfer the funds from one account to another.

The common way which is used by many organizations is that people deposit their zakat/fitra into one account and from there on the organization spend it where they feel it’s most needed.

If the organization collects funds in one account and pay your due to a cause from a different account, your zakat/fitra will be paid.[1]
