Can an Islamic institute intentionally take haram income

Question:

Can an Islamic institute intentionally take haram income?

Answer:

Bismillah

If the majority of the income is lawful and only a small percentage is unlawful then it is permissible for the Masjid to use the income as rulings are given on the greater part. (li al-akthar hukm al-kull)   (Fatawa Rahimiyah p.157 v.2 & Fatawa Mahmoodiyah p.491 v.1)

However, if the majority of the income is unlawful then without doubt it will not be permissible for the Masjid to take it and use it for their expenses. (Fatawa Mahmoodiyah p.138 v.10)

With regards to your question, it is not permissible for a Masjid or any Islamic institution to take such wealth where they know that the majority of it is from unlawful sources.
