What title should we use to address the people before the Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alahi Wasalam

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by DarulIftaBirmingham

Question:

Respected Ulama of Deen, what should we say with names of people before Nabi Akhir uz Zaman (SAW). Should we say ‘Alayhis Salam’ or ‘Radiallahu Anhu’ or ‘Rahimahullah’.

Answer:

Bismillah

If that person had seen a Prophet or was in the company of a Prophet such as those who were the disciples of Saaiduna Isa Alayhis Salam you should address him with the title Radiallahu Anhu. If that person did not see or was in the company of a Prophet, but through authentic traditions it is established that he was a pious god-fearing person then you should address him with titles such as Rahimahulllah or Rahmatullahi Alahi.
