Is it permissible to sell an item at a higher price than its original cost?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com
Assalamu alaikum wa rahamatullahi wa barakatuhu! Jazakallahu khairan for the taking the initiative of reviving Islam ( through Tableeghi works and other activities). I was going through your reply for question 1471 Faiths & Beliefs Deviant Sects & Groups ( Link : http://darulifta-deoband.com/viewfatwa.jsp?ID=1 471 ) ( You have answered many questions in the same manner for e.g. 6516 Faiths & Beliefs Dawah & Tableeg) Instead of directing the questioner to the refutation book or some other source – it would be very helpful in clearing the misconception if the answer is provided then and there itself. This will save a lot of effort and time. We write to you scholars because we are not competent enough in Isalmic education – that we will ourselves sit and refer to each book and find out the details ourselves. I have learnt in Jamath that of the 6 adab, one is to acquire knowledge by asking. What is the ruling regarding selling of items at higher price e.g an item XYZ costs Rs : 100/- and I sell it at 10,000/-. Is this allowed? (Kinldy quote references) Awaiting your response. May Allah reward you for the righteous deeds. Ameen.

Answer

(Fatwa: 597/421=L/1430)

As per the Shariah, there is no limit of profit set in business.

من اشتری شیئاً و أغلی في ثمنہ جاز

?It is lawful if one purchased a thing and sold it on higher price.?

But, receiving more profit is against morality; therefore the articles should be sold with proper rate of profit, it is against morality to take extraordinary profit.
