Is it permissible to recite Fatiha on food in remembrance of certain holy figures?

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta-Deoband.com

My question is that fatiha on food like in moharram, barawafat, in others in the name of hazrat ALI, or others its right or wrong?

Answer

(Fatwa: 1710/1506=B)

First of all, it is not proved in Islam to recite Fatiha on food. Then, fixing date, month and considering it necessary is wrong. It is bidah (innovation in religion); it has no base in Quran, Hadith and Khairul Quroon (Age of the Prophet -peace be upon him- and Sahaba). We should always follow the teachings of the Quran and Hadith in all matters and see what the Companions (Sahaba) did: من احدث فی امرنا ھذا ما لیس منہ فھو رد (بخاری و مسلم)
