Is it permissible to put CCTV cameras around your house and shop for security purposes?
Answer:
CCTV cameras are not a means of protection, rather they only serve the purpose of identifying suspects. Nonetheless, if these cameras capture footage of people and store the same, it will not be permissible under normal circumstances to install them, as this will fall under the category of picture-making (i.e. capturing pictures and videos of animate objects).
