Replacing Natural Grass With Astroturf

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta Azaadville

Question:

I would like to know if it is permissible to have artifical grass in ones’s garden, with the current water situation as well as lack of garden help available will it be ok to remove my lawn and replace with astro turf.

Answer:

We do not find any rulings in the Kitaabs of Fiqh prohibiting us from removing natural grass (in any other place besides Makkah Mukarramah) and replacing it with astro-turf or paving etc. You are therefore at liberty to replace your garden with astro- turf particularly if this will reduce the high water bill and lessen the burden of maintenance.
