Prohibited Times Of Trading On A Friday

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Darulifta Azaadville

Question:

1. During what times is trading prohibited on a Friday?

2. Is it prohibited to trade even though no Jamaat Khana is present in a particular town?

Answer:

1.Trading becomes prohibited on the day of Jumu’ah from the time of the commencement of the FIRST Athaan right up to the time of the completion of the Salaat.

2. If the town is of a nature wherein the conditions of Jumu’ah are fulfilled (i.e. it has a total population of three thousand or more and one’s daily necessities can be easily procured), then the performance of Jumu’ah becomes incumbent upon its Muslim inhabitants. Thus, trading will become prohibited in such a town from the time that the first Athaan is given; even though there may be no Jamaat Khana present there and the Muslims have to perform their Jumu’ah at the back of a shop or in a neighbouring town. On the other hand, if the conditions of Jumu’ah are NOT met in that particular “town” then, since seeing that Jumu’ah is not obligatory on its Muslims, the Shar’ie laws governing trade on Jumu’ah will not apply there.
