Backbiting

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by CouncilofUlama.co.za

Q: Is it backbiting if my mother talks to the doctor unnesseceraly about my illness, things that she doesn’t need to talk about? She goes to the doctor and tells him everything about my life even things he doesn’t need to know.Is this backbiting?

A: It could be very well that your mum is passing over irrelevant information to the doctor, but I think in all fairness she is sincere, and only has your welfare at heart. It could be that according to her the information she is passing over is relevent, hence I feel you should not be perturbed by this. After all if the doctor is as professional as he ought to be he would treat the information with the utmost confidentiality.
