Haj: Once in 5 years

Answered as per Hanafi Fiqh by Tafseer Raheemi

Can we go Hajj if we’ve been in the five years prior?

There is no such rule, rather we should try to go as much as we can. The Hadith regarding 5 years is as follows:

Rasulullah sallallahu alayhi wasallam reported that Allah Azza wa jalla says “Surely a person whom I have given health in body and abundance in provision, 5 years pass by him and he does not visit Me, is indeed a deprived person”

This indicates that the visit should be made as frequently as possible. This is why the khulafae raashideen used to go for Haj every year.

Don’t worry about istikhara. Istikhara should not be made about whether to so something good or not do it. Hajj is a form of Ibadah and we don’t need to do Istikhara for it because Allah Ta’ala has given us direct hukm of it.

One thing to note here is that if the authorities there make some rule, we should try to abide by it. This year they have made this rule for UK that we can only go once in 5 years. That is something else.

We should not try to lie or cheat for a nafil Haj.
