Q: My mother passed away several years ago. I was quite young. I would like to pay fidyah for her missed fasts. Kindly inform me how to calculate the amount.
A: For every fast you shall pay the amount of one fitra (sadaqatul-fitr) that is paid on the day of Eidul-Fitr.
You have to take the current value of the fitra. Find out from your local Imam what the fitra amount is currently because it varies from province to province. If you can’t fimd that out then tell us where in South Africa you live and we will tell how much the fitra is.
